Susie Home - Artist

Unleash your inner artist...

...on a Painting holiday or a weekly Art class

My name is Susie and I am an artist living in Gindou in the Lot with my husband Mike. In addition to creating my own Art I thoroughly enjoy teaching people of all levels and run weekly Art groups for local people, some of whom have been coming for several years.

We use all sorts of different techniques, materials etc including watercolours, pastels, acrylic paints and inks which I provide for my students.

During the summer we run residential, week long art holidays and also offer Chambres d’hôtes in our beautiful Quercy stone farmhouse, which, being on the side of a hill has wonderful views across the valley. One of the barns in our lovely grounds has been converted into a fully equipped Art studio that can be used when we aren’t painting in ‘en plein -air’.’

We’ve been running our courses for ten years and I never get tired of seeing my students improving their skills and enjoying art again, many of whom haven’t done any formal art since school.

By simply reintroducing them to painting I have more often than not witnessed an emerging talent that has never been allowed to shine.

Of course if you can’t make one of these Art weeks you would be welcome at one of our weekly groups.

Here are just some of the comments from my weekly art classes:

“I’ve been coming to Susie’s weekly class for over 2 years now and have attended her painting holiday as a daily student, and in that time I have really seen an improvement in both my technique and my visual skills.

We’re an eclectic bunch and all have very different painting styles and ability, but what unites us is the sense of achievement at the end of each lesson and the fact we can have a laugh at the same time is a bonus. Thanks Susie!” Phil, Cazals

"I've been going to Susie's weekly art group since September 2010. I have to admit to being a tad nervous on my first day, seeing I hadn't done any art since school - but Susie's relaxed and informal teaching style soon put me at ease, and now there's no stopping me!" Lorna

“I last picked up a paintbrush when I was 14, when, (much to my regret) my father persuaded me that taking history ‘O’ Level would be far more useful than art.

Well I’m now into my 40’s and I’m still waiting for when the date the spinning jenny was invented will be of some use - thanks dad!

However, I’ve been coming to Susie’s art class for a year now and spend three glorious hours a week totally immersed in my own little world.” Mel, Salviac

Susie and Mike Griffith moved to Gindou in the Lot in 2004 and have been running residential painting holidays at their home – Le Perchoir des Paons, for the last six years. They have welcomed guests from all over the world and many return time and time again.

Susie studied at Croydon and Ravensbourne Art Colleges before taking up a career in publishing in the UK. She has also run Art Clubs and workshops for adults and children and has hosted several painting trips to France.

She works as an artist in her own right, exhibiting and selling her work locally.
